| Abstract Scope |
In 2024, PT INALUM experienced an increase in anode busbar spark problems in reduction furnaces, affecting 325 points. Previously, repairs were performed by welding the damaged busbar surface, requiring the furnace to be shut down for approximately 2 hours. This method caused potential aluminum production losses and required additional energy and effort to stabilize the furnace after restart.
To overcome this issue, C-shaped aluminum plates (C-plates) were installed as an alternative repair method. This approach allows busbar repair without stopping the reduction furnace, thereby reducing downtime and eliminating potential production losses. From October 10, 2024, to May 29, 2026, C-plates were applied to 160 furnaces. If implemented on all damaged busbar points, this method could save PT INALUM approximately USD 69,579.9 while improving work efficiency, safety, and energy optimization. |
