| Abstract Scope |
Engineered materials and devices for the treatment of cerebrovascular disease have evolved rapidly over the past 15-20 years. One key learning has been the importance of interaction with the host biological substrate, which is dynamic and highly communicative. As a practicing academic neuro-interventionalist, I will discuss how current research in biomedical device design may benefit from programs to: 1) minimize coagulation cascade activation; 2) enhance endothelial proliferation; and 3) sense and interact with vascular, immune and neuronal micro-environments. Specific examples from recent and ongoing work will be presented to elucidate these principles. |
