| Abstract Scope |
The presence of cadmium in wastewater represents an environmental challenge that requires sustainable processes for its recovery. This study evaluates the recovery of Cd(II) by ion flotation, analyzing the effect of potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) collector concentration on dispersion properties such as gas holdup (Eg), specific bubble surface area (Sb), and bubble diameter (Db). Tests were carried out at 4.94×10-4 M and 7.41×10-4 M of PAX, superficial gas velocities (Jg) from 0.1 to 1.3 cm/s, and a superficial liquid velocity (Jl) of 0.18 cm/s. The results show that recovery, Eg, and Sb increase with Jg, reaching maximum recoveries of 56.28% with 4.94×10-4 M and 67.87% with 7.41×10-4 M of PAX, both at Jg = 1.3 cm/s. Increasing the collector concentration decreased Db, yielding an average value of 0.089 cm, and increased the recovery of Cd(II), demonstrating the potential of ion flotation as a sustainable alternative for effluent treatment. |
