| Abstract Scope |
Currently, natural fibers are increasingly being sought as a substitute for synthetic fibers, as they contribute significantly to environmental sustainability. This study evaluates coconut husk fiber (CBF) as a reinforcing material in a polymer matrix, using volume fractions ranging from 10% to 40%. Dilatometry (thermal expansion) tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM E228, allowing for the determination of the average coefficient of linear thermal expansion (αm) and a detailed analysis of the composite’s dimensional behavior in response to temperature variations. The extent to which the volumetric fiber fraction influences the material’s thermal behavior was also observed. The results obtained make it possible to predict the thermal stresses generated in the composite and guide component design, thereby enabling the selection of the most appropriate fiber fraction for each end use. |
