Abstract Scope |
Powder Bed Fusion of Metals using a laser beam (PBF-LB/M) is a widely used additive manufacturing process due to its high geometrical resolution. However, deviating thermal boundary conditions in the surface areas restrict the part quality especially in overhang regions of the components. One approach to solve this issue is to use adaptive process parameters depending on the downskin angle. Even though this helps to improve the printability and quality of the components, differing process parameters combined with the varying thermal boundary conditions lead to deviations in the meltpool size in the adapted regions. This results in a reduced accuracy of the parts outer dimensions. To address this, a method for the correcting of the beam offset was developed. This method takes the overhang of each point of the contour into account to select suitable process parameters and correct the beam offset based on it. |
