| Abstract Scope |
The DOE NE Advanced Fuels Campaign (AFC) focuses on metallic fuel development and qualification to support national goals. The AFC aims to establish a fuel qualification basis, addressing material performance data gaps and enhancing next-generation fuel designs. This presentation will highlight major research initiatives, including advanced tools and methodologies. Key topics include fuel-cladding chemical interactions (lanthanide attack, decarburization), cladding creep, and transient performance phenomena (high-temperature eutectic interaction, transient stress rupture). The presentation will address specific materials issues and ongoing efforts to resolve them, providing an outlook on future metallic fuel opportunities and challenges. |
