| Abstract Scope |
An investigation of the microstructures of coatings obtained using the FACH process established that the main difference of the FACH process was that the presence of activators and an optimized particle size distribution of the charge allowed for the formation of denser and more consistent layers. The coating consists of the following successive layers (from the substrate to the surface): G-phase—a thin layer of intermetallic compound containing 23–26% Fe. When using FACH, this layer is as thin and continuous as possible. δ-phase—8–10% Fe. Under FACH conditions, it forms a compact columnar structure, which determines the coating’s high corrosion resistance and hardness. ζ-phase (6% Fe) it is often weakly expressed or absorbed by the δ-phase. The eta phase η is practically absent, since all the free zinc has time to react with the iron. FACH allows for the recycling of galvanizing waste, achieves high corrosion resistance. |
