| Abstract Scope |
The growing demand for sustainable construction materials has driven the reuse of industrial residues, such as furniture sawdust waste (FSW), aiming to reduce environmental impacts. This study evaluates the influence of FSW as a partial substitute for natural sand in cement mortars, at replacement levels of 0%, 0.5%, and 1% by mass. Mechanical performance was assessed through flexural and compressive strength tests, mass density and water absorption on hardened mortars. The results indicate that higher FSW content leads to a reduction in mechanical strength. However, at 0.5% replacement, the decrease observed was minimal and does not compromise the material’s applicability for conventional use. In contrast, the 1% replacement level resulted in a more significant drop in strength. The findings suggest that the controlled addition of FSW is a viable alternative for developing more sustainable mortars, contributing to waste management and reducing dependence on natural aggregates. |
