Abstract Scope |
Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) is an advanced imaging technique that enables three-dimensional analysis of internal structures, offering a significant advantage over traditional two-dimensional methods like SEM. This analysis is extremely useful for the green parts of 3D-printed metal powders. Due to the layer-by-layer nature pore patterns and distribution of powder shift throughout the build process. Using micro-CT these changes can be captured and quantified. This work presents a comprehensive set of analysis methods in one place, supported by practical examples and quantitative data derived from 3d-printed parts. These parts were scanned at both a low magnification (~14 um) and high magnification (~440 nm). The resulting insights provide a critical foundation for both backward analysis for understanding how printing parameters influence microstructure and forward prediction of sintering behavior. |
