| Abstract Scope |
Low-carbon steel stands out as a baseline structural metal in current engineering projects due to its cost-efficiency and adaptable mechanical strength, which justifies its extensive employment in industrial equipment and maritime exploration structures. Nonetheless, a major drawback of this ferrous alloy is its high susceptibility to deterioration when operating in severe surroundings. To circumvent this vulnerability, incorporating synthetic organic compounds into commercial paints represents a conventional countermeasure, although their ecological toxicity has sparked an active search for eco-friendly and bio-based alternatives. Driven by this scenario, the present study analyzes the incorporation of Camellia Sinensis powder as a natural filler into a commercial epoxy system to shield AISI 1020 substrates against aggressive saline media. The corrosion resistance and surface microstructural modifications of the plant-derived composite layers were monitored under simulated oilfield operating conditions using potentiodynamic polarization curves. |
