| Abstract Scope |
This study presents a computational methodology for the optimized design of unbraced steel planar frames, considering geometric nonlinear behavior and semi-rigid connections. The three-stage approach begins by generating a database of feasible connections (BDD_LVC) to reduce computational costs in evolutionary processes. Subsequently, structural profiles and optimal stiffness levels are defined, followed by the identification of specific connection components. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is employed for optimization, while the CALFEM software is adapted for structural analysis, incorporating nonlinear effects and semi-rigidity. Mechanical responses are obtained through the Calc_LSR_MC program, based on the Eurocode 3 Component Method. This structured solution promotes improvements in mechanical performance and economic feasibility. The methodology was validated through comparisons with established literature, demonstrating satisfactory results for materials engineering applications. |
