Abstract Scope |
This study presents the results of the mechanical and microstructural evaluation of Portland composite (CPC-30R) that has exceeded its recommended storage period by more than two years. Cubic specimens of 5 × 5 × 5 cm were prepared using a water/cement ratio of 0.485, in order to compare its compressive strength with respect to a recently produced cement. After 28 days of curing, the cement under optimal conditions reached an average strength of 298.5 kg/cm², while the cement with extended storage time showed a significantly lower strength of 44.2 kg/cm². In addition, both materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), identifying structural and morphological differences that explain the decrease in compressive strength of the out-of-date cement. |
