| Abstract Scope |
Natural fiber composites (NFCs) have emerged as sustainable alternatives to synthetic-fiber-reinforced polymers, combining mechanical performance with reduced environmental impact. Among lignocellulosic reinforcements, fique fiber (Furcraea andina) exhibits promising mechanical and thermal properties, yet remains underexplored in hybrid configurations combining fibers and mineral particles. This study investigates the influence of fique fiber and silica particles derived from calcitic marble waste on the mechanical behavior of epoxy-based hybrid composites. A full factorial design was employed, varying fiber (0, 5, 10, 15 wt%) and particle (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 wt%) contents across sixteen treatments. Flexural and impact tests, complemented by scanning electron microscopy, were used to assess mechanical performance and fracture morphology. The study aims to determine whether synergistic interactions between fibers and particles enhance mechanical properties, contributing to the development of sustainable structural materials from renewable and recycled resources. |
