Curriculum Redesign in Welding Engineering: Industry Endorsements and CWI Exam Preparation |

| Abstract Scope |
The Welding Engineering program at The Ohio State University is one of only 14 engineering degree programs offered by the institution and is unique nationwide. Although graduates of the program have historically been in high demand across diverse industrial sectors, the program has consistently experienced student enrollments that are disproportionately low relative to workforce needs. This persistent enrollment challenge is largely attributed to negative or limited perceptions prospective students associate with the term welding when evaluating engineering degree options.
In response, the Welding Engineering program is implementing two strategic curricular modifications aimed at improving student recruitment and enhancing alignment with contemporary industry requirements. These modifications include the introduction of industry-focused tracks (or endorsements) and the incorporation of curricular content designed to prepare students for the fundamentals portion of the newly redesigned AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) examination. This presentation provides an overview of these two program enhancements. |
