| Abstract Scope |
Attendees will learn why failing to consider the ram/cylinder static and kinetic friction of a resistance welding machine can leave a manufacturer with elevated expulsions and weld variability over the capital life of the installation. The physics of the welding process will be discussed in sufficient detail to develop an understanding of how high static friction, which results in excessive ram breakaway force, and variations in kinetic friction as the ram moves, are responsible for inconsistent and erratic ram motion response during each weld, and from weld to weld, and why such inconsistent ram response results in inconsistent welding performance. |
