| Abstract Scope |
Cu–Al–Mn-based shape memory alloys are attractive low-cost functional materials; however, their mechanical and deformation behavior is strongly affected by minor alloying additions. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations are used as a comparative atomistic screening approach to evaluate the effects of Ni, Ti, Fe, and Co additions on the compressive deformation behavior of (Cu70.8Al23.6Mn5.6)98M2 alloys. Each alloying element is introduced separately at 2 at.% and assessed under identical loading conditions. The simulations focus on relative trends in stress–strain response, elastic behavior, local defect evolution, and atomistic deformation mechanisms, rather than direct prediction of the shape-memory effect. Experimental alloy production and mechanical characterization were performed to support the computational findings. This combined computational–experimental approach aims to identify the effects of selected minor alloying elements and provide preliminary guidance for further development of Cu–Al–Mn-based functional alloys. |
