| Abstract Scope |
As the aluminium industry shifts toward increasing recycled content, understanding the impact of alloying elements on castability becomes ever more important. This study examines the influence of elevated silicon levels on the castability of 3003 aluminium alloys. Thermodynamic modeling was employed to predict the formation of intermetallic phases as a function of silicon concentration. Complementary casting trials were conducted with varying silicon levels to evaluate castability. The resulting ingots were analyzed for intermetallic particle formation and distribution. By correlating modeling predictions with experimental observations, the study provides insights into the relationship between silicon content, microstructural evolution, and castability. These findings support the optimization of recycled aluminium alloys for industrial applications and contribute to sustainable practices in casthouse operations. |
