| Abstract Scope |
Bi-doped yttrium iron garnet (YIG) powders were synthesized for aerosol deposition thick film development for microwave magnetic circuits. During the aerosol deposition process, bonding and densification of the film and film/substrate interface is facilitated by high pressure, impact and fracture of the particles, which results in a unique nano-crystalline film with micron-scale thicknesses. This unique combination of crystallite size, residual stress from deposition, and relatively thick film typically results in unique properties compared to bulk ceramics of the same materials. Therefore, ferromagnetic materials such as YIG and doped YIG are of interest to understand these properties with respect to the bulk and between changing compositions, or even in combination with other ferromagnetic materials. Deposition was performed onto glass substrates to facilitate the characterization of the magnetic properties of the films; including vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). |
