| Abstract Scope |
Having correct models of a hot rolling mill is of paramount importance. Accurate and reliable models enable the successful development of new steel grades and products with specified properties and provide significant reductions in resource and time costs. These models give an opportunity for optimization of productivity while avoiding equipment overloading and for calculation of the mechanical properties of hot-rolled strips coiled at various coiling temperatures using alternative cooling strategies. Furthermore, the availability of such models allows for the accelerated testing of new steel grades and products through virtual trials. Virtual trials save costs and time during the final process of steel composition determination. This article summarizes U.S. Steel successful experience in developing and using such models. |
