| Abstract Scope |
This study aims to synthesize hydroxyapatite and bone-like materials using waste eggshells as a calcium source, designed to favor alveolar bone regeneration. Two synthesis routes were compared: a solid-state method, in which eggshell and (NH₄)₂HPO₄ powders are mixed directly, and a solid-state impregnation method, in which eggshell powder is impregnated with an (NH₄)₂HPO₄ solution at a Ca/P ratio of 1.67. The influence of the mixing approach on phase purity and compositional homogeneity was elucidated. Fluoride-substituted HA was prepared by substituting F⁻ for hydroxyl sites in the apatite lattice using NH₄F, and the effects of the fluoride substitution ratio on crystal structure, lattice parameters, solubility, and bioactivity were evaluated. By assessing the physicochemical properties and biocompatibility of the synthesized materials, this work seeks to identify the optimal composition and synthesis conditions for alveolar bone regeneration, which requires appropriate solubility and bioactivity.
