Abstract Scope |
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has implemented a project to improve the reliability of metal crucible tilters used in potrooms. Metal pouring is a critical activity during pot start-up to avoid delays in metal production. Frequent challenges were faced in metal pouring due to disconnection and outage of the metal crucible tilters. This delayed pot startup and created risks during the maintenance. To improve metal pouring and employee safety, several enhancements were introduced in the crucible tilters to improve its reliability. Magnetic shielding was introduced to avoid signal interruptions. Remote control batteries were upgraded and provided with battery indicators along with an alarm system. Also, a safe access platform was introduced to improve machine safety. Upon successful completion of these improvements, the machine availability and safety were significantly improved. |
