| Abstract Scope |
Ductile failure results from the coupled evolution of plastic deformation and void nucleation, growth, and coalescence, all of which are strongly influenced by the underlying microstructure. This work presents a generalized microstructure-sensitive framework for modeling ductile damage in polycrystalline materials. The formulation extends the Leblond–Perrin–Suquet (LPS) gauge-surface methodology to materials exhibiting multiple deformation mechanisms. The resulting thermodynamically consistent framework directly couples porosity evolution to the constitutive plastic potential, enabling a unified treatment of ductile damage in multi-deformation constitutive models. The model is implemented in an FFT-based full-field solver, enabling efficient simulations of large three-dimensional polycrystalline aggregates while resolving local stress, strain, and damage fields. The framework is used to investigate the influence of elastic and plastic heterogeneity, microstructural topology, and constitutive hardening on damage evolution and the onset of ductile failure. |
