| Abstract Scope |
Mechanical strength is an essential requirement for artificial rocks intended for heavy-duty surfaces, as it conditions safety, durability, and service performance. This study evaluates the physical-mechanical behavior and abrasive wear resistance of vitreous artificial rocks produced with 89% recycled soda-lime glass and 11% epoxy resin. Two compositions optimized by particulate packing (#4 and #8), processed by vacuum thermal pressing, were compared to Branco SIENA granite and Branco PRIME commercial agglomerated rock. Physical indices, three-point bending strength, uniaxial compression, and AMSLER abrasive wear were analyzed. The vitreous compositions exhibited low porosity and high bending and compression strengths, suitable for applications in countertops and tabletops. Composition #4 demonstrated the best balance among densification, mechanical strength, and surface performance, highlighting the potential of recycled glass for higher-value-added applications. |
