| Abstract Scope |
While the α to ε phase transition of pure iron at 13 GPa has been well-studied, the transition in steel alloys and effects of temperature have been less explored. In this work, experiments were conducted with a single-stage light gas gun to investigate the dynamic response of low carbon steel, including phase transition pressure and spall strength at elevated temperatures. Using momentum trapping shock recovery techniques, post-impact samples were recovered to analyze microstructural changes after shock loading. |
