| Abstract Scope |
We here present research highlights from the Swedish Nuclear Materials Platform (numap.se), including AI-enhanced modelling of radiation damage processes and advanced manufacturing (AM) of complex nuclear materials. NuMaP brings together KTH with four other Swedish universities and several industrial partners to address key research gaps in nuclear materials. One major focus is the development and qualification of materials for lead-cooled fast reactors, including novel AM cladding solutions and high-performance fuels.
We will focus on three topics: a fast and efficient method for modelling radiation damage with electronic-structure fidelity; a deep dive into the complex interplay between chemistry and radiation damage in simulated burn-up fuel matrices, using uranium nitride (UN) as an example; and the thermal and mechanical performance of additively manufactured nuclear materials, from powder atomization through laser powder bed fusion consolidation. These research examples span the full spectrum from fundamental materials science to industrial qualification. |
