| Abstract Scope |
The study investigates leaching of phosphate rock with sulphuric acid with the aim of producing phosphoric acid. The sample was obtained from Chilembwe Mine of Eastern province of Zambia. The sample was leached under different conditions such as pH, particle size and acid dosing. Leach efficiency was lower (<45 %) when the sample was leached under controlled pH conditions. However, higher leach efficiency of 92 % was obtained when the sample was leached at acid consumption of 500 kg per tonne of ore. Therefore, it was concluded that leach efficiency of P2O5 from the phosphate rock is acid depended on and not pH. The feed material was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) for phase identification and quantification. |
