Abstract Scope |
The study aims at producing fertilizer-grade phosphoric acid through counter-current leaching of finely ground Chilembwe rock in Zambia. The lixiant used is dilute sulfuric acid. The effects of key parameters such as particle size of the ore, leaching time, acid concentration, and pulp density. Preliminary lab-scale experiments indicate that counter-current leaching in four stages has the potential to achieve phosphoric acid concentrations within the required range of 48–61% P₂O₅ for monoammonium phosphate (MAP) production. Recycling of weak phosphoric acid into the leaching process has also shown promise as a cost-effective alternative to conventional thermal concentration. The feed sample was characterisation by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction for phase quantitative and quantification. |
