| Abstract Scope |
Currently two competing technologies are today common to heat up decommissioned electrolysis furnaces back to operating temperature: electrical heating and gas-fired burners.
The company TRIMET commissioned innovatherm in early 2024 to build and deliver gas-fired restart burners for heating decommissioned electrolysis furnaces to operating temperature in their Hamburg plant. TRIMET’s performance specifications demanded to consider two conditions of furnaces:
a). Furnaces which have been shut-down with a small layer of frozen aluminium inside
b). Furnaces with refurbished refractory cathodic inlays
This presentation describes Trimet's objectives, the technology developed by innovatherm for this purpose, the challenges encountered during the project execution and the final results achieved. |
