| Abstract Scope |
Sm₂Fe₁₇ is the core precursor of the fourth-generation permanent magnet Sm₂Fe₁₇Nₓ, while the product quality was still severely restricted due to the unclear crystallization mechanism of Sm2Fe17. In this work, effect of cooling rate on the crystallization behavior of Sm2Fe17 in the single thermodynamics crystallization region of Sm2Fe17 (Sm2Fe17+L) was investigated. Firstly, the uniform Sm-Fe alloy melt was determinately prepared by the reaction of Sm and Fe at 1200℃ for 2h as confirmed by XRD, SEM-EDS and Rietveld refinement methods. Moreover, with the decrease of cooling rate from 6℃/min to 1 ℃/min from 1200℃ to 1050℃, the volume fraction of Sm2Fe17 in Sm-Fe alloy melt was found to be increased from 18.51% to 48.34%, whereas that for mean diameters was increased from 48.60 μm to 159.37 μm. On the base, the crystallization kinetics parameters including n and k was also revealed based on Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation. |
