| Abstract Scope |
Nd–Fe–B magnets are essential for modern technologies due to their high performance. Magnet manufacturing involves multiple critical steps, among which jet milling is crucial as it controls particle size and morphology, directly influencing microstructure and magnetic properties. However, jet milling is a complex, capital-intensive process requiring specialized infrastructure, and its limited availability leads to supply chain risks. Developing alternative milling approaches with comparable or superior performance can strengthen global production and enhance resilience by reducing dependence on limited suppliers. Here, we report an advanced milling approach that reduces contamination, preserves particle integrity, and simplifies processing compared to conventional methods. Particle analysis shows a narrower and finer size distribution from hydrogen-decrepitated feedstock. The resulting magnets exhibit higher coercivity (14.4 kOe) than jet-milled counterparts (12.7 kOe), while maintaining identical remanence (13.4 kG) and energy product (43 MGOe), demonstrating strong potential for scalable rare-earth magnet production. |
