| Abstract Scope |
Cold spray is a solid-state metal deposition process that is being explored for repair applications where corrosion resistance and material performance are important. The properties of a cold-sprayed deposit depend strongly on both the powder feedstock and how well that powder behaves during deposition. In this work, metal-ceramic powder feedstocks are being investigated for use in corrosion-resistant repair applications. The powder feedstocks are produced using spray drying to combine metallic and ceramic particles and are then characterized to better understand their morphology, particle size distribution, and phase composition. Characterization methods include Raman spectroscopy, particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The powders are then cold sprayed, and the resulting deposits are characterized to evaluate deposition quality and material performance. This work centers on understanding how powder design and processing influence the viability of engineered feedstocks for cold spray repair applications. |
