| Abstract Scope |
This study investigates the potential of reusing Amazonian tauari wood sawdust ash (sample A9) obtained from carbonization at 500 °C for 120 minutes as a sustainable mineral addition for cementitious matrices. Ultimate analysis (CHN) confirmed chemical stabilization, showing high carbon fixation (84.50%) and drastic elimination of oxygenated volatiles. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy evidenced significant concentrations of key inorganic phases, highlighting 30.69% of calcium oxide (CaO) and 12.58% of silicon dioxide (SiO2), suggesting parallel hydraulic and pozzolanic activities. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a highly porous, alveolar, and fragmented residual morphology caused by intense volatile release. While this microstructure increases water demand in the fresh state, the highly fragmented particles provide an effective physical filling (filler) effect to enhance matrix compactness. This wood ash represents a promising supplementary cementitious material for civil construction decarbonization. |
