Dark Field X-ray Microscopy: Henning Poulsen1; 1Denmark Technical University
     I aim to give a status of work on Dark Field X-ray Microscopy, DFXM, at ID06 at ESRF. Placing an objective lens in the diffracted beam, 3D movies are made of microstructural changes within deeply embedded regions with a resolution of 100 nm. I will present the potential for studying dislocation and dislocation structure evolution, e.g. during plastic deformation, and interfacing such data directly to DDD and CDD modelling, as well as the potential for dynamic studies at industrially relevant strain ranges. Next, I will present plans for the dedicated DFXM beamline ID03, to be commissioned in 2023. In the second half I will present DFXM movies with a time resolution of 1 ps. Using the x-ray free electron laser LCLS, soundwaves were filmed propagating in a single crystal. This work opens up for direct visualization of many fast processes at the interface between solid state physics and material science.The work involves collaborations between DTU, ESRF, LCLS, the group of L. Dresselhaus-Marais at Stanford, and the group of A. El-Azab at Purdue.
