Meeting MS&T21: Materials Science & Technology
Symposium Glasses and Optical Materials: Current Issues and Functional Applications
Sponsorship ACerS Basic Science Division
ACerS Glass & Optical Materials Division
Organizer(s) Jessica Rimsza, Sandia National Laboratories
Delia Brauer, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research
Scope This symposium provides a forum for the discussion of current issues in the science and technology of glasses and optical materials, including fundamental and applied glass science, novel glass synthesis and characterization methods, and structure-processing-properties relations of optical materials and their applications. Examples of topics of interest include advanced structural characterizations of glasses, glass transition and relaxation, atomistic scale simulations of glasses, structure-property relations, new functionalities and novel applications of glasses and amorphous materials. Contributions from academia, national laboratories, and industries addressing recent advances and new applications are welcome. This symposium includes the ACerS GOMD Alfred R. Cooper Award session, and it is endorsed by the ACerS Glass & Optical Materials Division, Nuclear & Environmental Technology Division, and Basic Science Division.
