Symposium Development of Light Weight Alloys and Composites
Sponsorship
Organizer(s) Ramasis Goswami, Naval Research Laboratory
Nikhil Gupta, New York University
Tanjore V. Jayaraman, United States Air Force Academy
Aashish Rohatgi, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Scope This symposium provides an opportunity of sharing recent advances in microstructure, phase transformations, precipitation behavior, properties (mechanical and stress corrosion), and technologies of light weight alloys (Al, Mg and Ti alloys) and composites (metal matrix, ceramic matrix and polymer matrix). The next generations of conventional and high-entropy alloys and composites for Aerospace, Automotive and other structural applications will be expected to possess multiple advanced properties in addition to high strength and toughness. For example, in Aerospace applications, the composites will be subjected to greater extreme conditions of temperature, pressure and radiations. Focus will also be on the improvements in the mechanical properties of these materials at relatively high temperatures and at extreme conditions. This annual conference attracts materials scientists and engineers from all over the world, and provides a venue for faster technology dissemination.
