Scope The Cast Shop Technology, along with Aluminum Reduction Technology, Aluminum Alloys, Processing and Characterization, Electrode Technology for Aluminum Production, and Alumina and Bauxite collectively form the Light Metals Symposium. This year, dedicated sessions in Cast Shop Technology will honor the contributions by Thorvald Engh and Christian Simensen of Norway to the science and technology of alloying practice, melt oxidation, melt characterization and melt refining. The focus is on aluminum but magnesium papers are also welcome. Papers covering topics in this field are, e.g:

- Charging Materials, Alloying, Pre-Furnace Treatment, Melting and Fluxing
- Melt oxidation
- Inclusion detection and removal
- Dissolved impurity removal, e.g. Na
- Filtration and Degassing

A growing demand for high quality and complex cast aluminium products require improved scientific understanding of the refining and casting processes. The symposium is an excellent opportunity to interact with experts from the Light Metals industry and academia from all over the world and hear the latest updates on key issues in the industry. You are also invited to submit papers of fundamental and applied research in the following subject areas:

Joint sessions with the Recycling Committee will be organised on recycling and with the Energy Committee on energy (furnace).
