||Additive Manufacturing: The Role of Post Processing on Properties

||The post processing of metal additive manufactured material often plays an important role for the final properties of printed components. Common post processes for metal AM are Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) for eliminating internal defects, heat treatment for modification and optimization of the microstructure and surface treatments for decreasing the surface roughness and eliminate surface defects. The HIP and heat treatment processes used today for AM materials are often developed for more conventional material like cast and wrought and might not always be optimal for the specifics of AM material. For surface treatments there is a lot of new technologies being developed for AM material specifically that is coming out on the market
The purpose of this symposium is to review and discuss the new developments within post processing and the effect on the final material properties.
