About this Symposium

Meeting MS&T22: Materials Science & Technology
Symposium High Temperature Corrosion and Degradation of Structural Materials
Sponsorship TMS Corrosion and Environmental Effects Committee
Organizer(s) Richard P. Oleksak, National Energy Technology Laboratory
Kinga A. Unocic, North Carolina State University
David Alan Shifler, Office of Naval Research
Raul B. Rebak, GE Global Research
Scope Current and future applications in power generation, aerospace, chemical, and other industries require structural materials that can survive exposure to extreme conditions involving higher temperatures and increasingly corrosive environments. Understanding degradation processes in these environments is crucial for the selection and/or design of materials for these applications. This symposium focuses on experimental, computational, and theoretical studies of the oxidation and corrosion behavior, as well as the associated degradation of properties, of alloys, ceramics, composites, coatings, and other structural materials in high temperature environments.
