About this Symposium
Meeting 2018 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition
Symposium Mechanical Characteristics and Application Properties of Metals and Non-metals for Technology: An EPD Symposium in Honor of Donato Firrao
Sponsorship TMS Extraction and Processing Division
TMS: Materials Characterization Committee
Organizer(s) Shadia Jamil Ikhmayies, Al Isra University
Jiann-Yang Hwang, Michigan Technological University
Bowen Li, Michigan Technological University
Pasquale Russo Spena, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano
Scope The symposium concentrates on physical and mechanical metallurgy and surface heat treatments, aircraft accidents, fractures and failure analysis. It also focuses on materials for technological applications such as metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and amorphous. Focus will be on mechanical characteristics and application properties of metals and non metals usually employed in technology. Bulk and surface transformations due to thermal and thermochemical treatments applied to steels, cast irons, aluminum and copper alloys will be of interest. Sessions will be devoted to standard and non-destructive testing methods on materials.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Fe-C stable and metastable phase diagrams
- Technological performance of materials in various uses.
- Materials structural modifications in their fabrication cycle.
- Corrosion, Corrosion-fatigue, metal fatigue, high cycles fatigue (HCF)

This symposium encourages, but does not require, accompanying proceedings papers for each oral presentation as well as for the poster contributions.
Abstracts Due 07/01/2017
