Symposium Fifty Years of Metallography and Materials Characterization

Scope The International Metallographic Society celebrates its 50th anniversary with this special session focusing on past Henry Clifton Sorby and Jacquet-Lucas award recipients. Since its beginning, IMS has worked to promote the art and science of microstructure preparation, interpretation and analysis. Practitioners in this field have been continually dedicated to the improvement of existing techniques, and the development of new and alternative methodologies. Advances in microstructure analysis have played, and continue to play, a key role in the development of the vast majority of materials in use today. The diverse areas of expertise among the society’s award recipients highlights the many industries – aerospace, automotive, microelectronics, energy, and nanotechnology – where microstructural analysis has enabled critical advances in materials science. This technical session will focus on previous IMS award recipients, highlighting recent advances in the field of microstructure preparation and analysis.
