About this Symposium

Meeting MS&T25: Materials Science & Technology
Symposium 3D Printing of Biomaterials and Devices
Sponsorship TMS: Biomaterials Committee
Organizer(s) Sahar Vahabzadeh, Northern Illinois University
Solaiman Tarafder, South Dakota State University
Amit Bandyopadhyay, Washington State University
Susmita Bose, Washington State University
Scope 3D Printing (3DP) or additive manufacturing (AM) provides unique opportunities to process biomaterials and devices that are not achievable by conventional manufacturing technologies. As a result, 3DP/AM is transforming the technology platform, impacting various disciplines, including biomaterials and biomedical devices. In addition, 3DP or AM adds another dimension to this field of research addressing the clinical need for patient-specific devices. This symposium will cover both oral and poster presentations to understand processing-structure-property-application relationships involving 3DP / AM of biomaterials under in vitro, in vivo, and in silico environments.

Suggested Topical Areas include, but not limited to

• 3DP of ceramic and metallic biomaterials

• 3DP of polymers and hydrogels

• 3DP in bone and dental tissue engineering

• 3DP in soft tissue engineering

• 3DP of materials for drug delivery

• 3DP of nano biomaterials

• 3DP in wound healing

• Surface modification of biomaterials and biomedical devices via 3D Printing

• Bioprinting, bioplotting and biofabrication

• 3DP of microelectronics for biomedical applications

• Mechanical properties of 3D printed biomaterials

• Modeling and simulation of 3D printed biomaterials and devices

• Patient-specific devices

• Regulatory concerns in 3DP of biomaterials and devices
