Scope This symposium invites submissions related to the solid state processing of metals. A wide variety of solid state processing techniques, including friction stir processing, additive friction stir deposition, ultrasonic additive manufacturing, equal channel angular extrusion, cold spray techniques, and other solid state technologies, are currently being developed and used. All of these solid state techniques can modify the constituent microstructures, eliminate defects, enhance mechanical and chemical properties, and even fabricate components. This symposium will highlight the recent experimental and modeling research in support of both fundamental and applied aspects of solid state processing techniques.
