Scope |
The symposium on “surface properties of biomaterials” aims to provide an international forum for scientists and engineers to report their latest research findings, exchange ideas and information, and establish research related to the recent advances in surface science for ceramic, polymeric, metallic and composite biomaterials.
The importance of this symposium is due to the demand for novel and improved medical devices to serve our global population, whose median age is continually increasing. As both biological response and implant wear characteristics are largely dictated by implant surface properties, understanding and developing technologies to control these surface properties are fundamental requirements for providing biomedical devices with improved functionality and broader applicability.
This symposium will focus on these general topics:
• Surface properties of 3D Printed scaffolds
• Bioactive coatings
• Wear resistant coatings and surface modifications
• Influence of surface chemistry on drug delivery
• Surface characterization of biomaterials
• In vitro cell-materials interactions
• In vivo tissue-materials interactions
• Resorbable biomaterials in tissue engineering
• Texturing of biomaterials and surface functionalization
• Surface charge and surface energy measurements
• Surfaces to improve antimicrobial properties
• Chemistry and grain size effects on biomaterials |
