In a Circular Economy, using our urban mines is a great way to access locally available secondary raw materials and create a buffer against supply disruptions. This conserves resources and reduces the impact on the environment and it is considered as one of the main ambitions of long-term sustainable global development, creating new growth and job opportunities.
Metals are the perfect material for a circular economy. Moreover, through recycling, reliable access to certain metals considered critical (i.e., rare earths and platinum group metals) can be secured. In the presentation examples of research at SINTEF will be presented.
