Abstract Scope |
In recent years, wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) attracted more and more attention to fabricate Ti components due its high deposition rate. However, grain coarsening is a critical problem for WAAMed Ti components due thermal cycling, which may significantly deteriorates the mechanical properties of the WAAMed components. Therefore, a post-heat treatment is always required for microstructure optimization. In current study, a high-quality Ti-6Al-4V thick wall was deposited by GMAW-based WAAM process. Gleeble thermal-mechanical simulator was applied to assist post-heat treatment design. Microstructure at different positions such as band and inter-band regions, tensile properties and hardness along vertical and deposition directions were compared between as-deposited and post-heat treated samples. The result indicated that finer microstructure with less IMC and higher strength were gained after post-heat treatment. |
