Abstract Scope |
The extraction and processing natural stone in world has an exorbitant record of waste generated in marble processing. In Brazil, only 75% of marble taken from the natural deposits it becomes the finished product and 25% is discarded. The artificial stones, based in calcitic and dolomityic marble waste and epoxy and polyesters resins present competitive physical, mechanical and thermal properties within the expected range for these alternative materials, moreover higher than observed to natural stones. These artificial marble presents flexural ultimate strengths around 30 MPa, maximum compressive strengths around 90 MPa, low water absorption and a satisfactory adhesion between load and resin which it appropriated to use as an alternative materials in civil constructions. |
