Metal powder porous materials are a class of advanced materials that possess unique structural and functional characteristics due to their porous structures. They play an indispensable role in fluid purification and control in nuclear industry, energy production, chemical processing, aerospace and many other important industries. In particular, the rapid development of the nuclear power, clean coal, and solar industries presents significant challenges for metal powder porous materials in terms of their scales, performance, service life and reliability. This paper reviews current key technologies of producing high-performance metal powder porous materials and their applications. A range of innovative metal powder porous products, which have found critical applications in China, will be introduced. Some of these porous products are known to be the largest in the world, e.g., 450 mm in upper diameter and 650 mm in height, manufactured in one piece without welding. Finally, future perspectives are discussed.
