||J-30: Preparation of AlN–Y2O3 Nano-composite Powder Using Combustion Synthesized Precursor

AlN–Y2O3 nano-composite powder was synthesized by carbothermal reduction method by using a combustion synthesized precursor. Firstly, the precursor comprising of a mixture of Al2O3, Y2O3, and C was prepared by low temperature combustion synthesis (LCS) method by using aluminium nitrate, yttrium nitrate, urea, and glucose as starting materials. The carbonthermal reduction at 1500 ░C under nitrogen for 2 h and subsequently the calcination at 700 ░C in air for 1 h transformed the precursor into AlN–Y2O3 nano-composite powder. The resulting powder exhibited the well distributed spherical particles ranging from 60 to 100 nm and was found to be free of any hard agglomeration. Moreover, the resulting powder displayed the uniform distribution of Y2O3 nanoparticles in AlN matrix. Furthermore, the sintered powder was also characterized by XRD and SEM.
