Presentation Title Development and Application of Electrocalciners with Increased Calcination Temperature

Abstract Scope The conventional vertical electrical calcination furnaces or eletrocalciners are used to produce ECA (electrically calcined anthracite), which is the main raw material for manufacturing carbon cathode blocks. The maximum center temperature of the conventional electrocalciner is approximately 1800°C. A finite element model is built to study the electroalciner. An improved electrocalciner is proposed and built. The maximum center temperature is increased to 2500°C or higher. This type of furnaces has been successfully used to produce graphitized petroleum cokes and graphitized anthracites.
