||X-4: Dynamic Deformation and Failure Mechanisms of Nanocrystalline Titanium Processed by ECAP + Conform

The nanocrystalline titanium rod with the grain size 120 nm was prepared by the equal channel angular pressing combined with the conform process. The dynamic deformation and failure mechanisms of nanocrystalline titanium were investigated by means of OM,SEM and TEM.The Zerilli-Armstrong equation is used to describe the dynamic response of nanocrystalline titanium. The strain hardening of nanocrystalline titanium is low after an initial stage of rapid strain hardening over a small plastic strain (0.06) regime. The strain rate sensitivity of nanocrystalline pure titanium is 0.37 at high strain rate ranging from 1000 s-1 to 1500 s-1, which is much higher than that of coarse grained commercial pure titanium.The microstructure evolution of adiabatic shear band of nanocrystalline titanium was obsearved by TEM. Dynamic failure mechanism of the shear band is also discussion.
