||SPG-35: Low Cycle Fatigue Behaviour and Micromechanics of a Beta Titanium Alloy Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr

Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr, a metastable beta titanium alloy has become one of the prominent members to be used in heavy sections of aerospace structural components. Beta annealed and bimodal type structures have been obtained by recrystallization above and below the beta transus temperature (TB = 850°C) respectively. The effect of microstructure variation on the strain controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) behaviour for both types of microstructure and the undergoing deformation has been studied. It has been found that softening behaviour was prominent in both the microstructures at every strain rate during the tests. The non-massing behaviour as well as bilinearity in Coffin-Manson plots suggested the change in deformation mechanism at various strain rates. The deformation mechanism study has been carried out using Transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
